Performance management. The necessary(?) evil of every corporate job. If you want a promotion you’ll need to prove the impact you’ve had. Except those cycles only come around once or twice per year and, if you’re like me, you can’t even remember what you were working on a month ago. That’s where Gemini can help.
Remember: Gemini has the same access to your Workspace account as you - which means you can ask it to fetch information from files.
Sometimes I find it falls short on looking further back in time, which is where the Deep Research feature comes in. You can set Drive as a source for research to find everything and get a report. Think of all the time you’ll save!
How to use Deep Research to dig into your Drive files
Let’s imagine your performance review is coming up in a couple weeks. Rather than dig through everything yourself, you’re going to have Gemini do the hard part. Here’s how:
Start a new chat with Gemini
Click ‘Tools’
Choose ‘Deep Research’
Write a prompt for Gemini to look through everything and provide a report.
For example: “Analyse my [Gmail and] Drive files from the past 12 months to identify key projects I delivered, significant milestones achieved, [and any positive feedback received from colleagues or clients]. Synthesise this information into a report that categorises my impact by project, detailing the specific value added, problems solved and results delivered in each instance. Finally, provide a list of strong, action-oriented bullet points summarising these top accomplishments.”
Click ‘Sources’
Uncheck ‘Search’ and choose ‘Drive’ (and optionally ‘Gmail’)
Select the Pro model
Submit the prompt and check the research plan before clicking ‘Start research’
Check the research plan (click ‘Edit plan’ if it doesn’t look right)
Click ‘Start research’
A few minutes later you’ll have a report. Read through it and write follow up prompts if you’d like Gemini to tweak anything. Hopefully it’s a good head start for your next performance review.
