I've written before about how Gemini can understand audio, like having it summarise recorded voice notes or long conversations to help organise your thoughts.
But doing this just got significantly easier with a new feature built into Google Meet (both on the web and the mobile app).
This is helpful whether you're brainstorming on your own, or sitting with other people in an in-person meeting. It listens to the conversation and takes notes exactly the same way it would during a standard video call, without needing to set up an actual meeting.
Here's how it works:
Get Gemini to create files for you
Open Google Meet on the web (meet.new) or the mobile app
Click the new Take notes button
Click Start taking notes. Gemini will immediately start listening to you and anyone else in the room
[Optional] Click the Pause button if you go off-topic, and click Play to resume taking notes
When the conversation is over, click the red X button to end the session.
Give your notes a title (for example, "In-Person Meeting with Dean") and click Save.
That's it! Once it finishes processing, the notes will be emailed directly to you and automatically saved into your Google Drive within a few minutes.
Next time you have an in-person catch-up, just pop your phone down in the middle of the room, hit the button, and let Gemini do the heavy lifting so you can focus on the conversation.
