Forms is one of the most versatile apps in Google Workspace, and a personal favourite! But if you’ve ever used it for a survey or event registration with a deadline or maximum capacity, you’ll know it’s a pain to manually keep an eye on, or try and wrangle a third-party add-on.
Finally, Google just launched a new feature in Forms to stop collecting responses based on criteria you define. You get two options:
Set a specific date and time for the form to expire
Set a hard limit on the number of submissions
How to stop responses in Google Forms automatically
If you don’t already have a form to work with, check out my previous tip for using Gemini to create one from scratch.
Click the ‘Publish’ button on the top right
[Optional] Change who can respond by clicking ‘Manage’
Click ‘Publish’

Click the ‘Published’ button on the top right (yes, the same button from a moment ago)
Click ‘Set close date or response limit’

Select your choice of date or number of responses
[Optional] Edit the message that appears on the screen once the form is closed
Click ‘Save’

This might seem like a minor update, but it’s so much more helpful to have this built-in than rely on third party tools for such simple functionality.
