You probably use Google Docs most days, whether you're writing something new or just reading what someone else has shared with you. But are you making the most of what’s possible?
There are a few features hidden behind a menu that could save you time. I’ve shared four of my favourites below. You can also watch me walk through them in the video at the end.
How to use four hidden features in Google Docs
1. Switch to pageless format
Do you ever actually print a document? If not, free up some space by using pageless format. It’ll stop tables getting cut in half by page breaks and make it much easier to read on screen.
Open your document and click Format
Choose Switch to pageless format

2. Assign tasks with the @ menu
Type @ anywhere in a Google Doc to see a menu of options for smart chips and building blocks
Choose Task, and assign yourself (or someone else a task that will also sync to Google Tasks)
You can also try the other smart chips too, like dates, dropdowns, a stopwatch, or AI summaries…
3. Add an AI summary
Type @ and choose AI summary
Click the tick to accept the summary once Gemini has written it
You can update the summary with a click of the refresh button whenever the content changes.

4. Listen to your document
Click the Gemini menu at the top of the screen
Choose Listen to this tab
A player opens in the bottom-left of the screen and reads the tab aloud.

You can watch me demonstrate these features (and a couple of bonuses) in a video exclusive to all newsletter subscribers here.
Thanks for subscribing, and I'll see you in the next one!
