Drafting emails in Gmail can be a pain because you’re given a tiny portion of the screen to type in. If you’re sending a post-project wrap up, or want some guidance from a colleague, you might find yourself sending them the draft, then having to copy and paste back to compose a whole new one.
Google Docs actually solves this problem, and there’s no copy/pasting involved!
How to draft emails in Google Docs
Go to docs.new to start a fresh document
Type @ to open the menu
Scroll down to the building blocks section and choose ‘Email draft’

[Optional] Share the document to collaborate with a colleague
When you’re ready to send, click the ‘Preview in Gmail’ button

Draft your email inside the template
This might seem simple but I think it’s very helpful! It’s also a good way to create a bank of template emails in one place (e.g. for responding to customer enquiries, employee onboarding, etc). Share the document with your team and anyone could easily send one of the templates.
