A well formatted document is also an easy to read document. Whether it’s a proposal for work, a brief for an agency, a training plan, or something else, there’s a simple way to create some visual hierarchy and consistency.
Setting up document styles
Document styles define the look of titles, headings and paragraph text. You can steal mine or create your own:
Click here to make a copy of my document (then choose your option below)
Steal my styles
Click the styles dropdown on the toolbar
Go to ‘Options > Save as my default styles’

Create your own styles
Highlight one of the styles (e.g. Title)
Change the font, formatting, and/or colour to your liking
Click the styles dropdown on the toolbar
Mouse over the style you currently have highlighted and choose ‘Update style to match’
Repeat steps 2-5 for each style
Click the styles dropdown on the toolbar and go to ‘Options > Save as my default styles’

Now every document you create will have these styles available to use!
Bonus
An added benefit of doing this is that the document outline will now be structured in a more readable way - showing each of the headings in the correct hierarchy.
